LISZT, GOLDMARK, MIKLÓS RÓZSA

Works of Hungarian composers for cello and piano

Péter Szabó (cello), Adrienne Krausz (piano)

Hungaroton Classic

Péter Szabó, solo cellist of the Camerata Academica in Salzburg and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, and Adrienne Krausz, who lives in Paris and is a constant chamber partner of Shlomo Mintz, put together a disc of pieces by Miklós Rózsa, Károly Goldmark and Ferenc Liszt. The later successful Hollywood soundtrack composer, Rózsa wrote his Hungarian-inspired Duo at the age of only twenty-four, in 1931. Goldmark’s Cello-piano Sonata, written in 1890, shows the influence of Brahms, while the oeuvre of Ferenc Liszt is represented by the transcript of the piano cycle entitled Consolidations by Jules de Swert. Warm colours, splendid taste for dimensions and obvious erudition – these are the main features of the smooth, quality interpretation.
